Philip Moore and Simon Crawford-Phillips have been playing together as a piano duo since 1995 and their interest in the surprisingly rich repertoire has inspired them to pursue this rather unique and challenging medium. Awards include First Prize at the 1997 International Schubert Competition in the Czech Republic (which led to a live radio broadcast of Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos), Second Prize at the 1998 International Piano Duo competition in Tokyo, the 1999 Royal Over-Seas League Rio Tinto Ensemble Prize (which gave them an appearance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Prizewinners’ Concert) and a generous Development Award from the Friends of the Royal Academy of Music.

Backbeat was formed in 1995 by percussion soloist Simone Rebello – the other members are Damien Harron, Richard Charles and Chris Bastock.
